Who we are
A local institution with a community heart
Ethiopian Welfare Action Group is a Camden-based charity supporting Ethiopian refugees and migrants since 1993 through practical help, learning, and wellbeing support.
Our purpose in Camden
EWAG exists to ensure that people arriving in the UK have somewhere safe to turn for guidance, respectful listening, and practical steps forward. We work with dignity and discretion, recognising that every family’s journey is different.
Our approach is supportive and community-led: helping people access services, build skills through English and computing classes, and find stability through social welfare guidance and hardship support.
We also recognise the impact of displacement and trauma. Where needed, we provide a compassionate pathway to mental health support, including PTSD-focused help, through sensitive conversation and appropriate signposting.
Our values
We meet people without judgement, and protect confidentiality wherever possible.
We focus on achievable steps that reduce stress and create stability.
Our work is shaped by the community we serve in Camden and beyond.
We operate with accountability, care, and a commitment to public benefit.
